Western States Horse Expo 2013

This year Sabine was again invited as a featured clinician to the 2013 Western States Horse Expo in Sacramento, Ca. The Horse Expo is the largest and most comprehensive equestrian exposition in North America.  In just three days the show includes over 300 horses and 500 vendors.  This years extreme weather created a heat wave of 108 degrees but that didn’t stop Sabine or her talented riders and 7 show horses.  With support from her team veterinarian, Dr. Nicole Fawns of Woods Dry Veterinarian Services, and fabulous groom Monica Metteer, Sabine held 3 clinics and performed in an exhibition ride on Saturday evening.  Sabine, riders, and horses all had a great time and gave inspired performances.

The Friday & Saturday clinics included 7 horses of various breeds, talent and education.  The clinics focused on lateral work, working canter pirouettes, extended trot and how to ride a test training level through 4th level.  On the right, Dana Todd performs an extended trot on Van Gogh, an imported Dutch Warmblood, during the Saturday morning clinic.

Saturday night, in 108 degree temperatures, Sabine donned her shadbelly (or tailcoat) and joined the ‘Chris Cox and Friends’ event.  The beauty and elegance of dressage was clear during a freestyle performance set to inspiring music.  Sabine rode Petite Gabrielle, a Hanoverian mare.

Sunday morning brought a respite to the heat and a wonderful turnout for Sabine’s piaffe, passage and pirouettes clinic.  Both horses and riders did a wonderful job negotiating a route across the show grounds to the designated arena.  The clinic demonstrated high level dressage movements and included detailed instruction.

Rawasco worked, enjoyed and gave everything he had for 45 minutes performing beautiful high quality piaffe, passage and pirouettes in 20 meter round arena.  During her ride on Rawasco, Sabine instructed on technique for both riding and training.  After her ride, the clinic continued as she gave additional instruction on the ground to Marty Courtney riding Orion.
